question for all those bjj video addicts

Hey guys like most of you on here I have became addicted to bjj videos mainly from this site and dvd's. (especially since I got my blue belt lol) ... Anyway basicly in my frre time and on weekends instead of watching regular tv I set and watch bjj videos. So my question today is since the ryan hall video came out in the restaurant and alot of people talkin about him I came across his triangle dvd online. So as a collecter of dvds and videos my question is should this dvd be in my collection? Is it as good as all the hype on the internet? Do any of you have theses dvds?.... I watched some his videos online and only found a couple but he really goes into detail.... just wonderin if its worth the money.... let me know!

Yes, yes, and yes. I was under him for 2 years and was fortunate to get most of the stuff taught first hand, but honestly man, his triangle dvd, 50/50, deep half, and back attacks are my mainstay material. The triangle dvd is that good because it's going to put the triangle into the perspective for you as a position and not just a submission. My current instructor did that with the omoplata with me and now that I treat it as such, it's a different world.

My triangle was average before, but now I feel it's pretty tough, I have good setups, and I have a series of ways to finish. Like with a lot of material, there's always some different ways to do things. There's tons of really good dudes that don't finish the triangle Ryan Hall does, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily the most efficient. I think that's where he takes it to another level in the mechanics. Oddly, I have short legs for my height and the triangle wasn't always easy (it makes taking me down difficult, but other things I have to do efficiently).

Even as a white belt I loved the triangle series. There are so many details that he points out that it immediately helped me and as aruffner said I think of it as a position first. Now that I think about it I get more armbars and shoulder locks out of it than chokes :P

Same here. Yeah man, that's exactly how my game went. I pick up on other subs from there. Weird, but I'll sometimes go omoplata from there and then sort of let them fight back in and when they do, I cinch my triangle really tight from the onstart. Like when I hit it coming off the omoplata, it's a fully locked up triangle with no adjustment needed, just a finish.

I don't have his triangle DVD (its on my list), but I do have his deep 1/2 and back series. He is excellent and conveying prinicples and concepts. I've put more time in on the deep 1/2 set, and the he goes over a lot of details and concepts that go well beyond the deep 1/2 position. His stuff is among the best out there.

+1

:-P

For the record, seconding all of the above.
I remember that on the first volume of the back attacks series, he almost APOLOGIZES for going into super detail on controlling from the back.. as everyone says, one of the most thorough and, err, sense-making teacher of principles (in addition to some neat moves).

If you want an idea of how good his series is watch the clips on youtube. That was enough to influence me to choose a college close to his gym so I could train with him. Get the DVDs, you'll learn a lot.

His DVDs are some of the best on the market, IMO.
