Gi Review - Tatami Nova (Latest)

The main changes seem to be the shoulder patches (which naturally I removed, as I always de-patch my gis), as far as I can tell, plus there is no longer any embroidery:

Short Review: Several BJJ companies now have budget gis available for the beginner. The Nova is Tatami Fightwear's contribution to that market and it's a good one. Lightweight, slim-cut and soft, the Tatami Nova is a strong contender. I'd still recommend a judogi as a first option due to the cheaper price, but as the Nova is £52.50, there isn't a huge difference in the strain on your wallet. Even the shoulder patches come off without leaving much of a trace, which is excellent news for plain-gi obsessives like me.

Full review, with more pics, here.

Out of curiosity, why do you de-patch the gi?

Simple: I hate patches on a gi, always have. I only wear plain white gis (or at least I would, if it wasn't for the annoying Gracie Barra gi rules. Still, I can continue to wear my plain gis outside of the GB school). Strangely, I'm happy to wear garish t-shirts, but I really dislike any kind of bling on a gi. :)

I wrote a post on the topic of blingy gis here, if you're interested in more of my babbling.

Oh, and just realised I posted this in the subforum than the main forum. If a mod sees this, would you be able to move the thread to the right place? Though it's not the end of the world if it stays here.

Ha ha ha - my aversion to patches is almost matched by my aversion to takedowns, so probably not.

Though technically, I did start my grappling with judo.
