Jens Pulver Little Evil Book Review

from sherdog.com

from: asianvaletudo

So far the only book I have read worth mentioning is called Little Evil. It is a true story and I have met the author a couple of times. This is my favorite book. It is about a boy named Jens Pulver who had a very abusive & alcoholic father and lived in a very bad environment. It was not uncommon to see a twelve year old walking around with a bottle of whiskey talking like he was 35 years old in his neighborhood. Everyday is a day of survival with his father in the house as he sometimes awakes in the middle of the night to the sounds of his father beating on his mother. Also, the most enthralling part of the book is when he is lined up next to his two younger brothers as his father shoves his shotgun down Jen's throat and says he will execute them all.
As he struggles to find his way in life, there are many setbacks that take place. One involves his brother trying to accomplish his dream of being the biggest, baddest, and most powerful drug lord in the area. He discovers wrestling and is hooked. The sport seems to be his only way to a normal life, free of abuse and drugs. It is also a tool he will use to fight back against his father. As he grows up, he gets physically bigger and stronger and now his father can no longer beat him at will. One day, his father tries to rob him and his mother and his fight with his father becomes so intense that both of them are nearly killed. After his father leaves his life, all is not good as one would think.
Jens is now a rebellious young adult hell bent on drinking, fighting, and wrestling. He knows his behavior cannot lead him to any good. He fights the inner demons within himself to find the right way for himself. Well, his way to glory is when he discovered mixed martial arts fighting competitions. He strived to be the best at what he wants and sacrifices nearly everything to accomplish his dream. As he works to where he is trying to get, he must fight self-doubt, the evil haunting of his childhood by his father and the sense of failure his father ingrained in him with childhood abuse. I will not reveal anything more about this book but I will say that he became the first lightweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and is one of the world's top prizefighters. Today, he is a glorious champion and is admired by many including myself. The road to his glory however is grueling, long, hard, and uncertain.
During his journey in life, he fucks up numerous times including getting his full scholarship to his dream college taken away due to bad graes, drinking, and fighting but he always manages to find a second chance for himself. However, nothing comes free for him. He must work and fight his way through all his hardships and doesn't let his failures get the best of him. This is story is truly an example of the triumph of human spirit and Jens Pulver is a true warrior as a fighter and a human being.
This is a must read not only for fans of mixed martial arts but also a story that will touch and inspire anyone who knows what it means to battle personal demons and make peace with themselves and with life's harsh realities. Anyone will enjoy this book just give it a try. It is very interesting as I finished it in a day and I rarely read books unless I am interested in the topic. This is a very inspiring book that will renew the reader's vigor to accomplish their dreams in life.

I have one word for this book: INSPIRATION.

Jens did a great job on this biography. I liked it because 1. It was a great story 2. it was well written 3. it was short and to the point.

I literally read this book in 3 or 4 hours, but I got A LOT out of it. So much that I tracked down Jens' email and wrote to him thanking him for sharing his story.

If you're looking for a good read in something that we're all obviously interested in here at the Grapplers Guide forums, then buy this book and check it out. I remember it being super cheap.
